National Taxation Bureau of Kaohsiung: One Tip to Enjoy NT$6.88 Million in Tax Exemption for Parents Giving Money to Children

【Translated by HW Group】

The National Taxation Bureau of Kaohsiung reminds the public that parents may enjoy an additional NT$1 million gift tax exemption per person if the gift is made within six months before or after their child''s marriage registration. By making use of this exemption wisely, parents can achieve significant tax savings legally.

Wealthy parents who wish to give money to their children can utilize the annual gift tax exemption of NT$2.44 million per person. If the total amount of the gift exceeds this threshold, the excess will be subject to gift tax. However, there is an exception: if the gift is given within six months before or after the child''s marriage registration, each parent is entitled to an additional NT$1 million exemption.

Therefore, in the year of the child''s marriage, the combined gift tax exemption for both parents can total up to NT$6.88 million. If the total gift amount does not exceed this threshold, there is no need to file a gift tax return. The Kaohsiung National Taxation Bureau confirms that this is one of the legal ways to reduce tax liabilities.
