The England and Wales High Court (EWHC) has admitted to probate a will signed by the testator during the COVID-19 lockdown while he was sitting in a car, with the witnesses watching him through the window. Tindal HHJ ruled the execution method valid, despite it preceding the amendment to the Wills Act permitting remote attestation. Knowledge and approval of the will was proved because the drafting solicitor sent it to with a clear client care letter and the testator signed the acknowledgement slip (Baker v Hewston, 2023 EWHC 1145 Ch).
